Il progetto coniuga i Disability Studies, uno degli ambiti di ricerca della Pedagogia Speciale, e la Letteratura Francese e si propone di ricercare lo studio della disabilità in un autore di lingua francese. Partendo dalla figura e dalle opere di Charles-Michel de l’Epée, ritenuto “bienfaiteur de l’humanité” e l’inventore della Lingua dei Segni in Francia, lo studio intende mettere in luce il suo lascito culturale e la rappresentazione del “sordo-muto” (come era definito all’epoca) nella letteratura francese del XVIII secolo. 

This project combines Disability Studies, one of the research fields of Special Education, and French Literature and aims to find the study of disability in a French author. Starting from the figure and the works of Charles-Michel de l’Epée, considered as “bienfaiteur de l’humanité” and the inventor of French Sign Language, this study intends to highlight his legacy and the representation of the “deaf-mute” (as they were called at the time) in the XVIII French Literature.
