Suspension and Interruption of Student Career

Information on how to suspend your student career in order to attend another academic course or procedures to temporarily interrupt your student career.

Suspension of Student Career

If you have enrolled but wish to attend a postgraduate course at the University of Macerata or other university or a higher education course at a foreign institution or at an Italian military academy or at a university in agreement with such institutions, you may temporarily suspend your student career and, in that case, you are exempted from paying enrolment fees and tax.

If you have already submitted your application for renewing enrolment, it will be cancelled and any amounts paid will be deducted from enrolment fees and tax due in the academic year when you resume studies, except for any adjustment required in case of any fees and tax increase.

When to apply: Within 30th November except when the application is affected by the starting date of courses you wish to attend. In the latter case, you have to provide supportive documentary evidence.

How to apply:

Send a ticket with the Student Office of the Department offering the course of your choice, through the Infostudenti portal, by clicking on ‘Student Area: University Career’ (Area Studenti: carriera universitaria) and on ‘Suspension/Interruption’ attaching documents concerning the university course you wish to attend and suspend, along with a front/back copy of a valid identity document belonging to you.

During the period of suspension, you may not perform as a student, avail yourself of any educational service related to the suspended course. Any exams you may have taken are automatically cancelled.

To resume your suspended career, check the Resumption of studies webpage (Ripresa degli studi)

You may resume your suspended career only if the course is still on offer, unless you have already passed all the exams included in your program of study and you only have to take the final exam.

Interruption of Student Career

You may temporarily interrupt your student career in one of the following cases:

  • if you do not renew your enrolment for at least two subsequent academic years
  • if you do not renew your enrolment due to a serious and long-term illness or due to military service or voluntary service
  • if you do not renew your enrolment for maternity, in the year of birth of each child

Please note!

  • If you have already re-enrolled, your student career may not be interrupted in that academic year.
  • If you have not re-enrolled for one academic year and you do not fall within the cases listed above, your student career is not interrupted.

            You must therefore:

  1. Pay fees and tax due, as well as the supplementary fee due in the academic year when you failed to enrol.
  2. Re-enrol in the current year by paying fees and tax due, as well as any overdue supplementary fees.

In order to resume your student career, you may apply for your interrupted student career to be rejoined. Check the Resumption of student career webpage (Ripresa degli studi).

You may resume your suspended career only if the course is still on offer, unless you have already passed all the exams included in your program of study and you only have to take the final exam. Check the ‘Types of Enrolment’ webpage (Graduand)
