Progetto di Ricerca: Il progetto analizza come i residenti delle aree marginali italiane reagiscono alle carenze nei servizi sanitari attraverso i meccanismi di “exit” (emigrazione) e “voice” (voto di protesta o astensione), alla luce del divario urbano-rurale e del “recognition gap”. Integrando prospettive sociologiche e politologiche, lo studio indaga se l’insufficiente offerta sanitaria contribuisca sia allo spopolamento, sia alla crescita del consenso per partiti anti-sistema. Basato su dati quantitativi (ISTAT, AGENAS, ESS) e qualitativi (interviste, focus group), il progetto confronta condizioni oggettive e percezioni soggettive dei cittadini. L’obiettivo è verificare se exit e voice rappresentino forme di domanda di riconoscimento nei “places that don’t matter”, offrendo una lettura integrata delle disuguaglianze territoriali e dei comportamenti politici in Italia.

Research Project: The project examines how residents of Italy’s marginal areas respond to deficiencies in healthcare services through “exit” (out-migration) and “voice” (protest voting or abstention), within the framework of the urban–rural divide and the “recognition gap.” Combining sociological and political science perspectives, the study investigates whether inadequate healthcare provision contributes both to depopulation and to increased support for anti-system parties. Using quantitative data (ISTAT, AGENAS, ESS) and qualitative methods (interviews, focus groups), it compares objective conditions with citizens’ subjective perceptions. The aim is to assess whether exit and voice function as demands for recognition in “places that don’t matter,” offering an integrated interpretation of territorial inequalities and political behavior in Italy.
