Diplomatic Career: The Department of Law Launches a New Advanced Training Course

The Department of Law at the University of Macerata, recognized as a Department of Excellence, is launching the first edition of the Advanced Training Course in "Preparation for the Diplomatic Career Entrance Examination" for the 2026/2027 academic year. This postgraduate programme is designed for graduates who wish to prepare for the competitive examination for the position of Legation Secretary or develop skills applicable to careers in international organizations, European institutions, and other internationally oriented professional environments.

Applications are open until 30 September 2026.

"Preparing for a diplomatic career today requires a serious, structured, and interdisciplinary approach," says Claudia Cesari, Director of the Department of Law. "It is not enough to master individual disciplines; it is essential to understand the connections between law, economics, history, languages, and international relations in order to interpret the complexity of today's global landscape."

The programme was developed under the scientific direction of Gianluca Contaldi and Francesca Spigarelli and offers an integrated educational path combining legal, economic, historical, and political studies. Its aim is to prepare participants for the diplomatic entrance examination and, more broadly, for careers in international affairs.

The course awards 45 university credits (CFU) and includes 225 hours of teaching, delivered primarily through live online classes, with a number of in-person sessions held at the University of Macerata.

Classes will begin on 26 October 2026 and conclude in April 2027.

The curriculum includes:

  • International Law
  • European Union Law
  • Political and International Economics
  • History of International Relations
  • Public and Private Law
  • Public Accounting
  • Consular Law
  • Languages for International Relations

"With this programme," concludes Claudia Cesari, "the Department makes its academic expertise available to those who aspire to a career in international relations, providing a solid educational foundation and practical tools to approach the diplomatic examination with greater confidence and awareness."
