The Italian language test is compulsory for all single-cycle degree programmes, bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes taught in Italian, except for the exemptions set by the Italian Government for the 2025/2026 and published at this webpage: https://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/.

Being a non-EU citizen who needs a visa for study purposes in Italy, you must follow a specific procedure for International students requiring visa and holding a foreign qualification:
- The first step is to apply for a preliminary evaluation of your qualifications, also known as ‘pre-admission application’. Around few weeks after the beginning of each academic year, the pre-admission process for the next academic year starts and takes place in different rounds called “intakes” until the end of May. The choice of an intake over another does not affect the outcome of the evaluation. Applicants are invited to register at the dedicated portal: https://apply.unimc.it/ and to complete the application with the required details, documents and tasks. The procedure is quick, easy, and guided. After submitting the complete application, a teaching committee will assess it and, in case of eligibility, you will be notified about your pre-admission: a letter contained relevant information is sent for this purpose.
- The next step is the pre-enrolment application through Universitaly: in order to start the procedure to obtain the visa, eligible candidates for the enrolment at University of Macerata must submit visa applications through the Universitaly portal (https://www.universitaly.it/index.php/registration/firststep). The pre-enrolment application through Universitaly starts usually in springtime, following the publication of the procedures related to the next academic year by the Italian government at this webpage: https://www.studiare-in-italia.it/studentistranieri/.
Upon registration at Universitaly, you will find all the information for the completion of visa purpose pre-applications, aimed at facilitating the access of candidates to university programmes and related institutions. If you result eligible for the enrolment in one of our programmes, pay attention to upload the same documents provided for the pre-admission application. The University of Macerata will verify and validate regularly the requests submitted.
The subsequent phases will be completed at the relevant Diplomatic-consular missions for the purpose of obtaining the study visa. The procedures for issuing these visas must be concluded within the deadline established yearly. The pre-enrolment procedure is a process for the visa application purposes, whose responsibility is solely of the relevant Italian diplomatic authority.
- Once obtained the visa, you are ready to come to Italy and enrol officially at the University of Macerata. Register at our online to the programme you have been admitted and complete the enrolment procedure by submitting the needed documentation and complying with any academic duties notified by the Registrar’s Office of the Department, to which the programme belongs.
