Intellectual property rights
Under this section you can find some useful resources related to the intellectual property rights, which may arise within your research activities and/or within your research projects.
Resources are released by the EU IPR Helpdesk, a service funded by the European Union to support SMEs and researchers to manage, disseminate and valorise technologies and other Intellectual Property (IP) Rights and IP assets at an EU level. It also offers support and training on the topics of impact, dissemination, exploitation and innovation management, to be addressed within the Horizon templates.
We also encourage you to subscribe to EU IPR Helpdesk and attend their very interesting webinars on the above mentioned themes.

Fact sheet The Plan for the Exploitation and Dissemination of Results in Horizon 2020
Exploitation and dissemination are integral part of the European research and innovation funding and certain obligations in this regard arise at the project proposal stage. The Horizon 2020 work programme 2014-2015 explicitly specifies that project proposals shall include a draft Plan for the Exploitation and Dissemination of Results (PEDR).
The aim of this fact sheet is to outline the main characteristics and scope of the PEDR and to tackle the issues that participants in Horizon 2020 may encounter when preparing the PEDR.
Fact sheet IP management in Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions
Intellectual property (IP) management is a very important part of any successful project within the Horizon 2020 framework programme. Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSC) Actions are not an exception and participants should take the time to understand the IP rules and establish an effective and tailored plan for the protection and exploitation of research results and intellectual property (IP) arising within their projects.
The aim of this fact sheet is to outline the main IP-related issues that participants in Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions should consider in the different stages of their projects.
Fact sheet How to define and manage background in Horizon 2020
Defining the existing knowledge, i.e. the “background information”, of the partners has a direct effect on the successful exploitation of the results in Horizon 2020 projects.
Being aware of the importance of this issue, we have developed this Fact Sheet to provide information about the management of background information with an accent on "how to define background" within Horizon 2020 projects through different examples.
Fact sheet Copyright essentials
Copyright is an intellectual property right (IPR) that grants authors, artists and other creators protection for their literary, artistic and scientific creations, generally referred to as “works”. No matter if you are a copyright owner or a copyright user, the understanding of the copyright basics is crucial to any business. In essence, it must be borne in mind that safeguarding your own copyright and securing the permission of third parties before using copyrighted materials is not only legally required but also a good business practice. The present fact sheet illustrates the importance of copyright protection for businesses and provides insight into the copyright regime, knowledge of which could prove beneficial in particular to SMEs.
