Curricula: Classical Literature / Modern and Contemporary Literature / Historical Literature

The course is designed to provide students with a grounding in literature, modern languages, philology, archealogy, history and art. It offers three learning pathways sharing core modules needed to work as teachers (history of Italian and Latin literature, Italian linguistics, the history of art, a foreign language, history and geography related subjects):

  • Classical Literature: the course focuses on the basic cultural aspects of classical literature and the sources of literature from the classical age to the late middle age. Core modules include: Ancient Greek, the History of Greek Literature, Classical Philology, Late Ancient and Late Medieval Greek Literature, the History of Ancient Christian Literature, Paleography.
  • Modern and Contemporary Literature: the course focuses on the basic cultural aspects of the modern and contemporary age and their sources. Core modules include: Modern and Contemporary Italian Literature, Italian Literary Criticism, the History of Italian, Romance Philology, Contemporary History of Art, Semeiotics and Language Philosophy, General Musicology.
  • Historical Literature: The course aims at developing an understanding of the context and dynamics of historical events affecting knowledge at large and contemporary culture. Core modules include: Bibliography and Biblioeconomics, Archival Studies, Latin Paleography, Etruscology and Italian Antiquity, Exegesis of Historical Sources, the History of Christianity, the history of the Risorgimento.

Publishing: publishing project design; text writing and language editing, traditional or on-line page design, commercial text writing. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work hands-on and gain theoretical and practical competences and thus increase their career options as: experts in public and private agencies, cultural events organizers (also in music and theatre), in journalism, cultural heritage conservation and management, in social and political organizations; language, literature or history teachers in state schools (after obtaining a Master's Degree and the professional state qualification in Teaching).
The course offers career prospects as library operator, museum operator, archivist, library assistant, advertising consultant.

Applicants are not expected to take an entry test,. Students are interviewed by members of the teaching staff appointed by the Joint Council to provide adequate orienting on the basis of the individual’s initial level of education. Students holding a secondary school-leaving qualification bearing a mark equal or above 70/100 are deemed to meet entry requirements.
