Language Mediation for International Business and Digital Media

This course involves the in-depth study of three foreign languages, both European and non-European, intended as tools for interlinguistic and intercultural communication. The three languages can be chosen from a range of eight offered: Arabic, Chinese, French, English, Russian, Spanish, German and LIS- Italian Sign Language. The course cultivates strong skills in the techniques of translation of specialised texts, and dialogic and consecutive interpreting, alongside a firm understanding of theoretical and analytical linguistic tools, indispensable for full awareness of the dynamics of communication and the processes of textual production and reception.

The Language Mediation for International Business and Digital Media degree course is designed for careers in: specialized translation and commercial negotiation liaison; positions of responsibility in enterprises, public and private agencies with regard to international relations as language and cultural liaison assistants, document management, community and business promotion. Upon completion of the undergraduate degree course students may wish to proceed at postgraduate level enrolling on the two-year Master’s course in Modern Languages for International Communication and Cooperation (Class code LM-38).

An adequate level of prior knowledge is required, which will be tested by means of TOLC (CISIA online test). This is not a limited access course, consequently, any student scoring below the minimum threshold established by the programme can still enrol but additional educational activities will be guaranteed to compensate for any gaps (so-called additional educational obligations - OFA). These activities must be completed within the first year of the course.
