The course focuses on international culture providing basic education in the methodological and historical perspective of both language and literary studies. Students are thus equipped with the humanistic competencies required to be involved in producing and transferring knowledge. The course also enables them to develop a flexible approach to knowledge and varied professional skills. Its structure includes core modules in language and literature, as well as options in specialism areas among which to choose from: history and geography; art and music; philosophy and aesthetics; language and semeiotics; international and intercultural communication; classical European culture and archaeology. Language and translation modules include extra learning activities delivered by mother-tongue teachers (CEL=Collaboratori ed Esperti Linguitici).

Cultural services, journalism, publishing, cultural agencies, enterprises and commerce, diplomatic and consular offices, cultural tourism and cultural liaison, development operator teaching in multiethnic and multicultural settings.

Entry requirements for this course include two features: assessment of prior education level by means of a test, and of personal skills suitability. In order to be admitted to the undergraduate course in Western and Eastern Foreign Languages and Cultures (Class L-11 of the undergraduate degree courses in Modern Languages and Cultures) applicants need to be able to fully understand and concisely rework Italian texts, as a secondary school-leaving qualification (or equivalent foreign qualification validated in line with Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004, Art. 6, Para. 1) would normally certify. With regards to students with final school-leaving mark equal to or above 70/100, to be notified by means of a certificate-replacing statement at the time of enrollment, prior education level is deemed adequate and there is no entry test.
