Languages, Cultures and Literary Translation

The course equips students with a thorough knowledge of theoretical, methodological and critical issues in two languages and cultural areas. In the first two years of the course participants study two foreign languages and their related literatures. The range of languages and literatures include English, French, Spanish, German, American, Arabic, Russian and Chinese.

The Master’s course develops the skills needed to carry out translations of literary and discursive texts, to work in publishing as translators, editors, writers of different text types, within a multilingual context too, as language advisers in the performing arts, in journalism and in multimedia communication. Moreover, due to the high level of training provided, students have the opportunity to work in international organizations, Italian culture institutions abroad, consulates and embassies, national and international bodies in high-profile positions as liaison officers. Participants may also pursue a career in secondary school teaching provided they obtain the relevant professional qualification.

To be admitted applicants are to meet course entry requirements and to have an adequate personal level of knowledge.

Applicants holding a degree in class L-11 – Modern Languages and Cultures have open access to the course. Applicants holding a degree in other fields need to meet specific course requirements to apply for personal education assessment.
