The European Reform University Alliance (ERUA) has launched a new call for applications for students interested in joining the Blue Commission, a collaborative student-led workspace dedicated to promoting sustainability and environmental responsibility in higher education.

Active for over a year, the Blue Commission brings together students from ERUA partner universities, including the University of Macerata, who share a common goal: placing sustainability at the core of university priorities. Through the exchange of experiences, perspectives, and knowledge across different disciplines and national contexts, the Commission develops concrete actions to address the climate crisis from within the academic environment.

What is the Blue Commission?

The Blue Commission works in line with the ERUA Student Manifesto for Sustainable Higher Education and aims to:

  • Promote sustainable practices and policies within universities;
  • Analyse climate-related challenges across ERUA countries and develop effective local and institutional responses;
  • Encourage student engagement and active citizenship through initiatives such as circular economy practices, campus-based sustainability projects, and city-level actions.

In addition to strategic discussions, the Commission designs and implements practical initiatives, including clothing exchange events, workshops, expert talks, and other sustainability-focused activities.

Who can apply

The call is open to Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students from all ERUA universities with a strong interest in sustainability and environmental issues. Motivation, active participation, and a multidisciplinary approach will be particularly valued.

Each partner university, including UNIMC, will nominate at least two students, who will take part in online and in-person meetings, contribute to the implementation of the Student Manifesto, organise activities, collaborate with experts, and help mobilise the student community at both local and European levels.

How to participate

Interested students are invited to submit their application by 23 January 2026. The selection will be carried out by current members of the Blue Commission, ensuring diversity in academic backgrounds and areas of expertise. Selected candidates will be informed shortly after the application deadline.
