About the symposium
Climate change is reshaping ecosystems, economies, and societies, driving new patterns of environmental migration and complicating long-term development pathways. This interdisciplinary symposium convenes researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to explore the intersections of climate change, environmental migration, and sustainable development—linking evidence, international law and human rights, and policy reform.
The event is a key milestone within the University of Macerata’s research project on environmental and climatic migrations, bringing together Italian and European scholars to foster dialogue and co-create practical solutions that balance social justice with environmental sustainability.
Topics of interest
We welcome proposals that speak to (but are not limited to) the following areas:
- Climate change impacts & environmental migration — drivers of displacement, evolving mobility patterns, risk and vulnerability, and adaptation.
- Governance, legal frameworks & policy responses — international law, human rights, migration governance, and cross-border cooperation.
- Sustainable development strategies — integrating climate-induced mobility within the SDGs; inclusive urban/rural planning for resilience; environmental restoration and sustainable resource management in places of origin and destination.
- Technological & socio-economic innovations — GIS, big-data analytics, and early-warning systems; socio-economic and cultural impacts in host and origin communities; participatory, context-sensitive approaches.
