A research centre has the purpose of promoting research, even interdisciplinary, on a specific topic. A research centre can be active within a Department, it can carry out its activity between several departments of the same university, it can group more universities.

Research networks are temporary associations that aim to consolidate the interactions between different institutions and ensure an international opening for research, teaching and third mission.
