Pragmatic Cooperation between China and Italy: A Study in the Context of China-Italy Comprehensive Strategic Partnership towards its 20th Anniversary
The study was co-organized by China and Italy, with the support of China Eastern Airlines (CEA) and Global Times Online, and was completed by experts and scholars from both countries. The moderator of the project and the main Chinese author of the study is researcher Sun Yanhong, Director of the European Economy Research Office of the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Secretary General of the Italian Studies Branch of the Chinese European Society. Andrea Caligiuri, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Macerata and Senior Researcher at the China Center, and Gianluca Sampaolo, Senior Researcher at the China Center of the University, participated in the research and report writing.
As the world's unprecedented changes accelerate, China-Italy relations and Sino-Italy cooperation are facing new challenges and opportunities. In 2024, when China and Italy will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership, it is necessary to summarize the development of relations and cooperation between the two countries over the past two decades. Considering that pragmatic cooperation has always been the mainstream of Sino-Italian relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1970, this report focuses on the development of Sino-Italian pragmatic cooperation in the past two decades in terms of politics, economy and trade, science and technology, culture, cooperation in third-party markets, and mutual assistance in times of difficulties, summarizes its characteristics and trends, and based on this, looks forward to the prospects of pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.
