The Centre for documentation and research on the history of schoolbooks and children's literature (formally constituted with Rector’s Decree no. 475 date 20th of February 2004) and the “Paolo and Ornella Ricca” Museum of School History (set up by Rector’s Decree no. 1250 of 21st of December 2009) was launched in the Department of Education (now Department of Education, Cultural Heritage and Tourism) of the University of Macerata by a team of lecturers and researchers working in the the history of education and children's literature. The Centre and the Museum were created with the aim of providing the University of Macerata with a specialized body in history of education and schools, cultural and educational processes, educational publishing, education for democracy, citizenship education, history of female education, special education and children’s literature. The Centre aims to promote scientific collaboration with other Centres in Italy and abroad, which have worked and are working in the history of education, with particular attention to the history of textbook publishing and children's literature. In addition the Centre seeks to be a benchmark for the training of young researchers in this field and promoting conferences, seminars, exhibitions and other similar initiatives. At the same time, the Centre and the Museum promote the collection of sources, (i.e. archive and library materials, oral sources, as well as material sources), in order to preserve and enhance school objects and memories as a reflection of the nation's history and identity. |
