Library

The Library was launched in 2008, in order to support the research of the Centre for documentation and research on the history of schoolbooks and children's literature. In recent years the Library has improved services to students and historians interested in the history of schoolbooks and children's literature.

The Library has a main collection (comprising academic literature and printed sources related to the history of education and schooling, educational publishing and children’s literature) and several special collections of books and historical periodicals, donations made by generous donors or educational institutions.

Currently, the Library of Centre has:

- around 8,000 books (we receive around 200 new items each year) relating to the most recent studies and research on the history of schooling, education and children's literature, as well as books relating to social, religious, political and cultural history of Italy and Europe in the modern and contemporary age;  there are also small bibliographic collections relating to the history of educational publishing and children's exercise books of Latin America, Eastern Europe and Far East.

- over 5,000 books (also in microfilm or in electronic form) relating to the history of education and schooling in Italy during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, such as textbooks, reading books and disciplinary manuals for primary and secondary schools, as well as poems, novels, periodicals for children, published in Italy in particular during the post-unity period;

- 72 Italian and foreign journals on the history of education, schooling and children’s literature, as well as on the social, political, religious and cultural history of Italy and Europe in the modern and contemporary age.

Most of the books of the Library of the Centre are catalogued in the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) of 'Polo Maceratese' (http://opac.unimc.it/).

The staff of the Centre is working on a series of specific inventories in electronic format, to support consultation of the different special collections held in the Library.

The Library is open to Italian and foreign scholars and offers bibliographical research services.

Access to the Library requires the permission of the Director of the Centre and provides a range of services for bibliographical research and consultation.
